Under 65? Need Health Insurance?

As health insurance agents, we are committed to assisting anyone who needs health insurance find a plan that meets their needs. So, this month we are going to talk about the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA is available to those under 65 years of age, individuals and families. We want to get the word out now because some rules have changed recently that will help people who are looking for affordable health insurance.

First, due to COVID, the Federal Government has opened a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that started on February 15 and will continue through May 15. The SEP is available to those who are already enrolled, those who missed the previous enrollment period, and those who have recently lost their health insurance. The ACA provides tax credits to make healthcare more available to people/families who are work ing but have no health insurance. It is important to note that qualification for the insurance is based on income, NOT assets. The income requirements depend on whether the insurance is to cover an individual or a family.

Additional changes have been made in the ACA. If, in the past, your income was too high, you may now be able to qualify. If you already have a plan, the new subsidies may be retroactive to January 1, 2021. For those already on a plan, they may now qualify for a plan that better suits their needs.

“All of the health plans provided by the ACA program cover essential health benefits, such as primary care visits, and cover many preventive care services with no out-of-pocket costs to the consumer.”*

We are doing our part to get the word out to people who need to know about these important changes by sharing the information with you. Please help a friend, neighbor, or family member by sharing this important information with them. Anyone interested in learning more about these plans should contact a health insurance agent who has been trained and licensed to represent the plans available through the ACA program. Like Medicare, the client DOES NOT pay for the services of the agent. If you do not have an agent, we are both certified to represent most of the insurance companies offering plans on the ACA. If you aren’t sure if you qualify, call either of us and we will check for you.

*This information is from a CMS Press Release dated February 12, 2021.

We are licensed and insured health insurance agents.
